What is Time Management

What is time management? When I ask this question, many people reply that they think that time management is about planners, a system, or a technique.

While these can be important tools for time management, time management is really about Life Management.

If you think about it, time is given to everybody equally. Regardless of whether you are rich or poor, young or old, everyone gets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

So time is unmanageable. It can’t be gained or saved. Once it is gone, it is gone forever!

Our definition of time management is that it is about managing yourself in an allocated time. We view Time Management as really Life Management or Self Management!

This raises the stakes, rather than viewing time management as managing “to do lists” and other organizers, our response to the question “What is Time Management” is that is actually about managing your life in the most effective manner possible.

To manage your activities in the most effective way possible, we believe you need to make a conscious decision about how best to use the time that you have.

To increase your effectiveness at work and home, we provide you with several tools:

  1. Personal time management activities. These activities will get you working on your time management skills from the first day.
  2. Goal setting. Goal setting provides you with direction and helps you to prioritize your tasks. With goal setting you are like a ship without a rudder.
  3. Know how you spend your time. To objectively work our how you use your time and where you may be wasting your time, we suggest an activity log to record your time patterns.
  4. Use personal organizers and planners to schedule your time.
