Time management tip: It is not how much time you have but how you intend to use it.

by -Vividh Pawaskar jcimargao@sify.com
(Goa, India)

Time is a non-renewable resource.

Therefore, we would like to resort to time management.

But what is the use of having a lot of time if we don't know how to use it.

You will find people who do things to KILL TIME.

My suggestion to you is to first decided HOW you intend to live your life.

Then go about allocating time to things that matter the most.

Invest your time in such a manner that the moments you spend will become everlasting memories.

Kell's reply: Thank you so much for your post Vividh. I think what you have said so eloquently strikes at the heart of what time management is about.

Time management is not about doing things quicker or fitting more into your day. It's essence is to respect the time we have and to fill that time with meaningful contributions to work/life.

I find one of the surest ways to do this is to develop a personal goal setting plan of what you want to achieve in the different areas of your life.

Bring this down into shorter term plan, such as a quarterly plan.

But it doesn't stop there. If it did we would be at the mercy of reactive low value tasks that compete for our attention.

In your weekly planning session you ensure that you protect that time in your time management schedule.

I find the weekly planning much more beneficial than daily planning.

Why?

Daily planning pulls you into reactive mode rather than focusing in the proactive space. I talk more about this at time management matrix.
