Goal Setting
Goal setting is essential for effective time management. When you have a long-term perspective and know what your priorities are and you are more able to make decisions that ensure that you spend your time on what is important to you.

Putting first things first
If you don't prioritize you may work very hard but not actually achieve what you are aiming for in the different areas of your life. “Spinning your wheels and going nowhere” is the end result.
You scored out of 20 for putting first things first.
To ensure that you are doing the most important things for you, you need to ensure that you “do your first things first”. We recommend that you start with a prioritized to-do list but also look at doing a time management log for a couple of days.
Also this proactive activity can help you get control of your time. Time management software can also be a great way to supercharge your time management.
Planning your work
Planning has been shown to reduce execution time and increase the quality of work done. Planning can occur at many levels, from the yearly, down to the daily.

Managing interruptions
Time wasters can be internal, such as putting off hard or difficult work; or external, such as being constantly interrupted by the phone, colleagues and email.
You scored out of 20 for managing your interruptions.
While some interruptions need to be dealt with immediately others can be managed. Two tools that you can use which discuss how manage your interruptions are the time management matrix and these email tips.
Other strategies include having a quite hour (and letting your colleagues know), finding a quite place that you can do your work and turning the automatic notification off on your email, to name a few. See some of these time management tips for more information. Alternatively ask a time management question for a personal response.
Procrastination
Now beating procrastination is a battle that we all wage, at one time or another, between a habit of ease and a discipline of action. However, putting off important tasks by doing less important tasks is a time waster, and when time is money, the this habit can be an expensive one.
In the survey you scored out of 20.
To beat procrastination, it is best to understand what is causing your procrastination. Psychologists have identified a number of reasons for procrastination. To discuss the reasons and how to beat this habit, see beating procrastination. Alternatively ask us time management question.
Scheduling your time
Scheduling is the bridge between goals and action. If you can schedule your time for the important activities and tasks, you will focus on priorities and reduce your stress.

Having a good schedule that reflects the different areas of your life is a good step reducing stress and maintaining balance in your life. See these practical tips to improve your scheduling skills.
Delegation
Delegation is one of the most important time management principles available to managers. I can't think of a management practice that is praised more in theory but applied less in practice.
You scored out of 20 for delegation.
Often when I ask people about delegation, they praise its merits, but when it comes to their own use of delegation, the common response is “It is useful, BUT in my case….”
