You are most likely juggling at least the demands of academic work and social life, not to mention other extra-curricular activities. By planning your work and the prioritizing what you need to do, you get the most important stuff out of the way. The first step that time management students need to take is to get an overview of their semester. An overview of your semester will show you where you have bottlenecks of activity and where you need to prioritize your work. Download your semester plan for October to February 2009 here. In the semester plan put your assignment due dates and how much they are worth. Also put your exam dates and any other assessable dates. Put any personal obligations such as sporting commitments and so forth in the timetable. This should give you an overview of your commitments for the semester. It will also highlight bottle necks of intense periods of assignments and assessments, when all hands should be on deck. If you find that you have bottlenecks of activity then you may need to re-organize your time or apply the time management student matrix to identify which is more important to your overall student goals. From your semester plan develop a weekly plan that is updated on Sunday night. On the weekly plan put the lessons and any assignments that are due that week. Also include the times when you plan to study, write, or proof-read your assignments. At the end of the week you will be able to look over your diary and see how well you have done in keeping to your schedule. There will always be some tasks that don’t get done, just try to make sure that these are the less important things.
