Time Management in College

If you want to make the most our of your college experience then time management in college will help you to balance the different responsibilities that you have.

Having a semester plan is a great step. Draw up all your obligations such as assessments and exams. This planning that occurs at the semester level can help you to identify busy periods for you which you can prepare for.

The semester plan can then be funneled down to a weekly plan of classes and other obligations. This weekly plan is a great way to show the things that you need to accomplish this week. With the many different distractions that college life can bring, this is an essential part of time management for a college student is to plan your work and then work your plan.

By working your plan you remain focused on the things that you have to do, rather than being distracted and putting of these things till tomorrow. So a plan can help to beat procrastination.

Procrastination is a thief of time. To some extent we all suffer from procrastination and it can become a problem when we leave assignments to the last minute or cram the night before an important exam. It is a problem because these things increase your stress and result in lower grades for you.

Stress is also something that a college student has to deal with. The stress of:

  • having too much to do,
  • the stress of sitting exam, or
  • presenting your findings in front of the class.

There are a few simple strategies to deal with stress which you can put into place to make your college experience more enjoyable.

Remember, not all college students have the same demands. Time management for college students is a personal thing in which one size does not fit all. However if you master college time management you will become more effective in your life and learn an important skill that employers look for.
