In a competitive world, academic knowledge gets you ahead. An important time saver is study skills time management.

To maximize your study efficiency, memory and memory recall, it is important to:

  • have the right mind-set when studying, and
  • to study in a proper way.

Studying effectively, seeing how facts relate and fit together to form larger patterns of knowledge, involves having the right mind-set. This MP3 download will put you in the right mind-set to raise your academic performance

Studying effectively is not just about being in the right mind-set but also actively reading lecture and textbook content that takes advantage of memory encoding.

To take advantage of memory encoding, it is important that you read actively. When your read your notes or readings, read in an active manner, using the SQ3R method.

The SQ3R method is:

  • Survey. The first step is to skim the content looking at the headings and the summary.

  • Question. This step will help you to organize the material and help you to encode the information into memory. Second, turn the heading into a question. For example the heading “Study effectively” could be transformed into “What factors influence effective study?” By turning the heading into a question you make the content come alive and the reading more interesting.

  • Read. Third, as you read try to answer the questions that you have asked yourself.

  • Recite. Fourth, recite the answers to your questions (mentally, orally or written).

  • Review. Fifth, review the questions that you have asked yourself and what you have learned from your answers to these questions. This method is known as the SQ3R method.
