The Organized Home
An organized home reduces stress and helps you to be more productive while at home and away from home. Whether it is organizing your home office, the garage, or clearing the clutter, an organized home reclaims your space. Are you tired of the clutter in your bedroom, kitchen, or basement? Do you want to organize garage space more effectively, or clear the bills off the table and organize bills to avoid that late payment? If so, you’re not alone! A disorganized home traps you into living a life of stress, frustration, and chaos. It robs you of time that could be spent enjoying your life. It is stressful to come home from work and be confronted with a cluttered house. Tripping over piles of clothes, not being able to find things, sweeping the bills off the kitchen table... a cluttered house is frustrating! Can your home be more welcoming and not full of chaos and disorder? It is not difficult to begin your home organization, but the longer you put it off, the more stress you'll feel.
How an organized home affects your life An organized home keeps your life organized.
Imagine your home having a place for everything so that when you come home, everything is in its place. How much would a stress-free environment help you in other areas of your life? Now imagine coming home to papers and clothes laying about the house - it instantly creates a feeling of disarray and leads to stress. When you are stressed at home, you take that stress with you to work, school, and social events.
Benefits of an organized homeWhen you undertake home organization, you are in essence organizing your life since you spend a great deal of time at home. Having an organized home benefits everyone! Have you ever not been able to find something and have spent hours looking endlessly throughout your home? This "searching" causes stress and frustration. This stress can add to the daily toll of chronic stress which leads to all sorts of ailments including headaches, neck pain, back pain, and difficulty sleeping. Stress and health are connected! When you have an organized home, the rest of your life comes into order as well. Clutter in the home causes tension because where there is clutter, there is no sense of peace and your feeling of well-being is out of balance. That is why clutter control is so important. Moreover, when your home is organized you create a positive energy within your home because every item in your home has a place. You find your way through your home and your entire life takes on a more organized structure. You locate things easier, the house looks less cluttered, and you feel better about your home. It is worth the effort to have an organized home! I find by having an organized home I spend more quality time with my friends and family. It allows me more time to focus on the family! By being more organized you bring more tranquility and calmness into your home because you have a less cluttered home. BUT one of the most common questions is "How do I find the time to organize my home if I am so busy I can't get things done?"
Getting your home organizedThe first thing you need to do to begin home organization is declutter your home. Take it one room at a time so that you are not overwhelmed. Have a vision of what you want each of your rooms to look like when you declutter them. How do you want to use that reclaimed space? Now it is time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. I like to use the F-A-S-T principle for clutter control and home organization. F: Fix a time in your schedule to do it. It can be overwhelming when confronted with organizing your house. Schedule a time in your time management planner and do small bits at a time. Write down a time to do the organizing. Choosing one room or one surface, such as the kitchen table - this is a great way to get started and a practical strategy for overcoming procrastination. A: Anything not used in the last year. If you have not used the items for the last year consider this as potential clutter that you can donate or put in the trash and use your home storage more effectively. With each item, ask when it was last used and when it is likely to be used again. Ask yourself, "Is it worth it for this item to take up space in my house?" S: Someone elses stuff. Have the kids married and still have all their stuff in the garage? Is it time to get rid of you ex's belongings? It is bad enough when the clutter is your own stuff but when it is someone else's stuff, this can be frustrating. Take charge and let the person know you want them to pick up their belongings. T: Trash. Your goal in home organization is to keep things that add value to the space you inhabit and to seriously consider those things that don't. This is where the trash can is your best friend. If you have never done any kind of de-cluttering and have lived in the same home for many years, this is going to be a process and not something you can do in one sitting. Consider having a garage sale to get rid of all the clutter and make space so you can begin to truly have an organized home. Once you have de-cluttered your home, then you can move onto the next stage of organization. You might need to purchase some plastic or drawer type organizers so you can neatly place important papers or items that you either use on a daily basis and they can also be used to store items for longer term. Consider making use of your closets in your home for storage organizers, such as those with drawers may be used for winter clothing, blankets, and sheets. They are not particularly expensive and last many years, and most importantly, they help in the organization process. When you have an organized home, it affects other areas of your life in a very positive way. When you begin your home organization, get the entire family involved. That way everyone benefits from the new organized way of living. Check out this site for more organizing tips.
