Is your closet resembling a disaster area? Do you think you need more space? Are you having trouble finding things?

If so, these these tips to organize your closet may be beneficial.

How you hang your clothes can make or break your closet organization. Here are some ideas:

  1. Replace your wire hangers with plastic hangers.

Do you find that wire hangers get tangled and your clothes have a bad habit of falling off wire hangers, or snagging and catching on the hangers. If so, there are plenty of plastic hangers, but it is important to check out which ones suit your closet space.

  2. Use the layered hanging approach to maximize closet space.

The traditional layout of the closet does not maximize the space for clothes.

Take a look at your closet. If it is anything like a standard closet organization, you will probably see a rod that spans the length of the closet.

Hanging from the rod are your clothes. At the bottom of these clothes is usually some unused space that can be maximized by using attachable hangers.

Attachable hangers have hooks in the center that hold other hangers and so allow you to hang several garments.

This allows you to maximize your closet space and reduces the wrinkles that your clothes may get.

  3. Use Open-Ended Hangers for Your Slacks.

If you don't want to fold your slacks over your hanger, use an open-ended hanger.

    This will do two things.

First it helps you to increase the space that you use at the bottom of the closet.

Second you don't have to take the hanger out of the closet to remove the slacks.

Your Accessories and Your Closet Space

Do you have your hanging clothes under control? If so, then lets turn to your accessories.

Do you find that your shoes, handbags and other accessories are stuffed into the bottom of the closet.

What is important is to find space for your shoes, sweaters, ties and handbags.

An effective method for this is to create smaller more manageable spaces out of a larger space.

These smaller spaces should resemble the space that is required to store each accessory.

For example, if you have a shelf in your closet you could use shelf dividers to divide the shelf into sweaters and shirts.

Whatever method you choose, use one that suits your needs and fits with your closet size.

Another example of this divide and conquer strategy is the use of drawer dividers.

I use drawer dividers for my socks and underwear, but they can be useful for gloves or hats.

Shoes and Your Closet Space
